The Committee’s District stretches from the South Pier at the River Tyne to a point to a point on the Lincolnshire Coast known as ‘Donna Nook’ and includes part of the River Humber Estuary, a total distance of just over 200 shore miles. The seaward limit of this District currently extends out to six nautical miles as measured from the U.K baseline co-ordinates.

The Committee has two ways of monitoring fishing activity, the first being the use of the Committee's patrol boat, the North Eastern Guardian II. This vessel is berthed at Whitby and is used to provide a regular and thorough patrol service throughout all of the district. An onboard Rigid Inflatable Boat is used for boarding vessels and to carry out sea-borne monitoring exercises. The second method of monitoring is shore based monitoring activity undertaken by its Area Officers each of whom is assigned an area to control, and those areas are shown on the following plan.

Recently the Committee has purchased an additional 6.5 metre Rigid Inflatable Boat which will operate independently and provide a supporting role for the North Eastern Guardian.
